Beach Party Summer Disco

Our Beach Party Summer Disco will be held on Monday, 24th June, from
5:50pm - 6:30pm for Foundation Stage and 6:30pm - 8:00pm for Primary.

Tickets are priced at 15dhs per child. There will be candy floss and ice-creams on sale and stalls with temporary tattoos, hair-braiding and face-painting.

The dress code is flip flops, shorts, t-shirts, sundresses and shades.

If you are able to help on any of the stalls, please add your name to the
sign-up sheet outside your child's classroom.

Star Schools Swimming Gala

On Sunday children took part in the first Star International Schools swimming gala. Pupils from all three schools demonstrated some excellent swimming and some great personal performances were produced.

Enterprise Week

We all had great fun during Enterprise week, learning about how a business works and how difficult it sometimes is to make money! Each primary class designed, made, advertised and sold a variety of products, ranging from bracelets, cake pops, marshmallows, picture frames and 3D glasses to money boxes, toothbrush holders, rainbow crayons and face painting. First Star Swimming Gala

On Sunday, 9th June our Swim Squad will take part in their first swimming gala, against children from Star Al Twar and Star Umm Sheif. This will give our team the chance to experience the excitement of swimming competitively for the first time. The races will include individual breaststroke, back stroke and front crawl, as well as medley and freestyle relays.

This will be the first swimming gala to take place at Star Mirdif and we hope parents will come along from 9am to 11am to show their support.

The PTFA will be selling refreshments to raise funds for the school.

PTFA Meeting

The next PTFA meeting will be held at 8.15am on Monday, 10th June.

The main purpose of this meeting is to decide on a new format for the end of year School Disco, to be held on Monday, 24th June 2013.

This comes in response to parents requests to try something different following the lower numbers at the last disco.

So far we have had a number of suggestions including a Prom, Beach Party, Fancy Dress Disco and Pyjama Party.

We would love to hear your ideas so please come along to the meeting.

Football at The Rugby Sevens

KS1 pupils took part in a friendly football match against Arsenal football academy at The Rugby Sevens pitches. Everyone played really well and had great fun at the event.

FS2 Swimming

FS2 have loved swimming in the main pool this term. They all enjoyed showing parents how much they have already learnt!

FS2 Trip to Dino Live

FS2 visited Dino Live at Festival City. They all had a great time and were able to show how much they have learnt this term about dinosaurs!

Summer Camp

Welcome to our new PE and ECA Leader

Mr Jacques will be leaving us at the end of term to take up a teaching position at Repton, Dubai. A popular member of staff, we wish Mr Jacques every success in his new school.
Meet Miss Kate Duffy who will be joining Star Mirdif in September as our new Physical Education and Extra-Curricular Activities Leader. Kate qualified as a PE teacher in 2006, after obtaining a degree in Sport and Exercise Science from Loughborough University and gaining experience within the Sports industry. For the past four years she has been working in Dubai as a PE teacher and CAS Co-ordinator at JESS Arabian Ranches.
Her commitment to extra-curricular activities reflects her belief that a broad programme of after school sporting activities should extend children's learning and promote lifelong participation in physical activity. She has a number of exciting new plans for taking forward our PE curriculum and developing our ECA programme.
I hope you will be able to come along to meet her next week when she joins us for the Swimming Open Days on Monday, 3^rd and Tuesday, 4^th June.

International Day - Thursday, 30th May

International Day is only a week away and we are all looking forward to what is sure to be an incredible event.

There are 39 countries being represented on the day, either by parent volunteers or within classrooms!

You are all invited to come along on Thursday, 30th May, between 8:30am and 11:00am, to take your child on a trip 'around the world'. Every child will be issued with their own Passport which they will use to collect stamps from the different countries they visit. If you are unable to come into school, then your child will be taken 'around the world' by one of our specialist teachers so they won't miss out on the fun!

To make the day extra colourful, we would like all the children to come dressed in their national dress or the colours of their flag.

As there are activities planned throughout the day, parents are reminded that all children need to return to their classes after they have visited the different countries. This also means that there will be no assemblies next Thursday for Foundation Stage or Key Stage 1. These will resume on Thursday, 13th June.
