PTFA

Please find below the first edition of the PTFA 2012/2013 Newsletter.

The next big event for the PTFA is the organisation of the National Day Celebrations on 29th November.

If you have any toys, books, uniform etc that you would like to donate for the bric-a-brac / second hand uniform stall, please hand these items in to either the Pegasus or Phoenix Receptions by November 22nd 2012.

Come along to our next meeting which will be held in the Pegasus Staffroom at 8.10am on Tuesday, 20th November when we will be finalising arrangements for the National Day celebrations.

Staff News

A very warm welcome is extended to 'old' staff as they return from their holidays and to new staff arriving in Dubai to take up their posts at SIS Mirdif. We are looking forward to an exciting and successful year ahead.

Parents, Teachers and Friends Association (PTFA)

The PTFA brings together parents, teachers and friends of the school to raise money, to support the school and make a difference for the children. It provides an opportunity for everyone to work together towards a common goal. All Star parents are automatically members of the PTFA, however your contribution is important in order for us to succeed.

Participating in the PTFA is a great way for you to take an active role in your children's education. Research shows that children whose parents are involved in their schools perform better academically and socially. As a PTFA member, you have input into important decisions: how we spend money; which activities we sponsor; how we plan for the future. In addition, being in the PTFA helps parents learn to navigate the school system and network with other families.

The PTFA welcomes any level of time and commitment you can give — from volunteering to be on the committee, to helping with fundraising events or even donating prizes if you can't give any time. Every little bit counts and we are grateful to those who have supported us in the past.

National Day Celebrations - November 29th 2012

Fundraising

The main aim of the PTFA at Star International School Mirdif is to raise funds to help the school provide 'extras' for the pupils.

We raised over 6000dhs last year through our various fundraising activities and are in the process of purchasing new sound equipment for the school which will be of benefit both during the school day andfor PTFA functions.

What is the 'Social & Events Link' Parent?

The Social & Events Link Parent is the go-between for the Committee of the PTFA and fellow class parents.
It is the aim of the Committee of the PTFA for every classroom at SIS Mirdif to have two official Social & Events Link Parents.
Being a Social & Events Link Parent is a great opportunity to partner with the PTFA in helping your child to achieve the most out of his or her school experience. You will also form close friendships with other parents in our community.
We urge all parents to take part in school life and to make good use of this channel of communication to ensure that we are working together in partnership to help the children fulfil their potential and also build a better community here at SIS Mirdif
Once we have the volunteers from all the classes, the PTFA will arrange a meeting for these parents to provide information of what is required in order to execute the role effectively.  Thereafter, all communication from the PTFA will be done via the Social & Event Link Parent through email.
The basic requirements of the Social & Events Link Parent are:

  • Collect contact information from class parents
  • Facilitate communication between parents and PTFA ie, send out text messages or emails to the rest of your class parents at the request of the PTFA.
  • Coordinate social events to enable class parents to get to know each other better e.g. coffee mornings, play dates, etc.
  • Encourage class parents to participate in school events and social activities.

If you are interested in becoming a Social & Events Link Parent, please email starmirdifptfa@hotmail.com or use the contact form on this website.

As an association, the PTFA has a very specific role which encompasses a variety of activities as outlined below:

  • raising funds to help fund social activities supporting the work of the school.
  • running Social events for parents and children, providing an opportunity for people to meet and get to know each other and have fun.
  • providing support for school trips and outings and other special events
  • organising meetings to inform parents about school initiatives
